Black History Year ~

When PushBlack—the nation’s largest nonprofit Black media platform with nearly 9 million followers—set out to bring their storytelling to the audio space, I joined the team to help make it hit.

As producer, editor and sound designer on Seasons 1, 2, 4, and 5 of Black History Year, I helped shape the show’s sonic identity from the ground up. PushBlack was already known for its punchy, unapologetic voice on social media—my job was to translate that energy into a rich, immersive audio experience.

Working closely with the teams at PushBlack and Limina House, I crafted each episode like a sonic journey. From archival clips and atmospheric scoring to tightly edited interviews, I layered sound with intention—building emotional arcs that honored the history, elevated the voices, and pulled listeners all the way in. Whether it was a powerful sit-down with Kerry Washington or a deep dive into the Black radical tradition, every episode was an opportunity to blend heart, heat, and historical clarity.

I also served as a producer and editor of the flagship season of 2-Minute Black History, the show’s fast-moving spin-off designed for high-impact listening. In this format, I helped distill huge moments into tight, punchy episodes—bringing the same level of care and craft to stories that clocked in under two minutes.

Today, Black History Year is in its tenth season and continues to evolve, featuring new hosts, new formats, and even deeper dives into the intersections of Black history, politics, and culture. 2-Minute Black History has become a go-to source for quick, powerful lessons that reach millions each week—expanding PushBlack’s mission to inform, inspire, and activate listeners across generations.
